AYNY opened with Pattabhi Jois’s blessings in 1995 as the New York City branch of his institute in Mysore. As in his school in India, traditional yoga is practiced on a daily basis as part of the yogic path – a path which includes personal and social ethical observances, meditation, and study of philosophy. Beginners, intermediate and advanced practitioners are all welcome, and practice together in harmony in a welcoming environment. AYNY has taken part in bringing out some of the important teachings and writings of Pattabhi Jois, including Yoga Mala; Surya Namaskar; Sri K. Pattabhi Jois: A Tribute; and Guruji, A Portrait of the Ashtanga Yoga Master Through the Eyes of His Students. The directors of AYNY are Eddie and Jocelyne Stern, who began their training with Pattabhi Jois in India, in 1991. Our teaching staff includes Yossi Zur, Maria Margolies, Barry Silver, Doug Abraham, Spiros Antonopolous and Karri Jinkins.
